I had NO idea about the read aloud voice. I recently posted that I wanted to add voiceovers to my posts, but I just checked (from the app) and realized it was already enabled! I feel so silly for never noticing it. 😅

That’s great! It’s not the same as a human voiceover, but it’s really nice to have the feature of you don’t have time to do full voiceover!

These are important details for success.

Thanks for doing the work and providing these shortcuts/enhancements. So helpful.

Glad to share! And glad they are helpful! I personally found so much advice but these were things no one seemed to talk about, and I found these, and thought, oh wow! 💡 🤔

Thanks so much for this! If anyone has thoughts on how to schedule notes… ugh that seems to be my biggest hurdle as I work full time so getting notes out is difficult. I found a browser extension but you have to keep your computer and browser on and open. :( these are beautiful tips!

there's someone who developed a work around. But I don't believe there is a way to schedule notes within Substack.

I haven't tried the audio feature 😲

nice post. New to Substack, moving my work from FB to more centered around this platform. still trying to set up basics. This seems a good place to throw ideas out and get some feedback. Thanks for the informative post.

Glad it helped Bill! Definitely worth the time to play around and learn the settings. There’s more hidden in there than you think!

Thanks, I will look for more hints from your articles

Love this!! Thank you for all of these greats tweaks that aren’t just how to write the next viral note. I’ve done a few of these - maybe more of a first pass, I think there’s room to improve HOW I’m using them, but it feels good to have something there. Curious though - any insight on how/when the audio/voice play feature actually gets turned on? I have it on in settings but it appears not to be active for my posts & I read that maybe there’s some sort of mysterious threshold, such as # of posts or some level of consistency required for it to become active? Thanks, again!! Great info ☺️

I've heard that too, and there's nothing from Substack that specifically clarifies why some posts do not get TTS. I do know that there's no minimum word count.

I edited one of my posts after publishing it, and after I updated the post, the TTS button was greyed out when it was working before that.

I also think you have to be US based? I'm not 100% sure. I'm in the US and cannot test that :)

Thank you so much for your reply! VERY interesting. I think I’ve edited almost all of my posts at least once for one reason or another after publishing. 🤦🏻‍♀️ not ideal! I’m going to test that theory & try HARD not to edit post-initial publish. I also am in the US! So I guess that answers that. ☺️ I’ll keep guessing, testing, and revising!

Yes, do the experiment and let me know! I’m curious 👀

Been scouring a few Reddit threads. One comment referenced the need for a specific “subscriber-count,” then linked to an FAQ page when they first announced the feature. That FAQ page didn’t specifically call out a subscriber count as a requirement, but I noticed in the comments of that article, there was some heated debate from writers about their frustration for the feature not being available to everyone, and alluding to the possibility that maybe substack needed to prioritize “higher followings.” SOOO with all of my internet sleuthing, I’m thinking that maybe they edited their initial post to remove that disclaimer, but maybe still has the threshold in place. Have also seen the theory that there might be a post # requirement, as well as some saying that this feature was experiencing issues with generating audio on 1/6/25. 😵‍💫

I've been using tags to organize ONE of my newsletters, but not the other two-- I can see there's a missed opportunity there. Same thing with the custom footer option: I've been using the email HEADER option, but NOT the footer-- gotta get on the ball there!!

(I really like how you're using YOUR email footer to promote your children's book-- I'm definitely filing that idea away!!)

Great tips, much appreciated, Jen. 🙏

And PS: thank you about the comment on my book! I’d be thrilled if I got a sale from the substack!

Seems like a small thing, but it can lead to good impact!
